New Maintenance-Free FRP Bridge in the Play Park, Kolding – A Long-Lasting Solution

In the Play Park in Kolding, an old wooden bridge was due for replacement. After many years of use, it had become worn down, required frequent maintenance, and showed signs of rot in the woodwork. To avoid recurring operational challenges and ensure a durable solution, it was decided to replace the old bridge with a modern FRP bridge (fibre-reinforced plastic) from Fiberline.

“The dialogue with Fiberline has been good and smooth throughout. We don’t have much experience building with FRP, but it wasn’t necessary – the bridge was delivered preassembled and just had to be placed.” — Tim Kruse, Team Coordinator, Carpentry

Although experience with FRP as a building material was limited, it never became a challenge. The bridge was delivered as a fully assembled unit, which made the installation process both quick and straightforward.
There were no major reservations regarding the choice of material – apart from the visual appearance of the fiberglass, which initially raised some questions, mainly due to limited familiarity with the material in construction.

One concern related to the risk of vandalism, such as graffiti, and future cleaning – but the expectation for the new bridge is clear: it should last for many years without the need for ongoing maintenance.

The new bridge measures 5 x 2 metres and is constructed with Fiberline’s HD plank with a slip-resistant black coating – a solution particularly well-suited for both cycle paths and pedestrian bridges.
