Moulded Gratings, I-profile, U-profile
In May 2014, The Neptune Sailing Club in Vejle was equipped with new, non-slip fiberglass ramps, which have proven to be a crucial solution for the club’s members. The ramps, installed in collaboration with MarineDesign, are made from Fiberline’s durable fiberglass grating and are now 10 years old. They are used year-round by both children and adult sailors, and the functionality and durability of the ramps are clearly demonstrated in daily use.
Jan Ipsen, a former representative of the harbor’s construction committee, was deeply involved in the construction of the new floating docks and ramps. He highlights the important need for ramps that are both non-slip and function seamlessly for sailors. Jan explains:
"We had new floating docks made with accompanying ramps that had to be non-slip. If it had been a wooden ramp, you would have slipped right down immediately."
Since installation, the ramps have withstood both summer heat and winter cold. The children from Sejlklubben Neptun even sail during the winter when there’s no ice, and the ramps have handled these harsh conditions without any problems.
Watch the video below, where both Jan and the young sailors describe the functionality of the ramp in their own words.
The choice of fiberglass was largely based on the need for a material that could withstand the salty water environment of Vejle Fjord. Jan emphasizes the practical advantages:
"It couldn’t be wood, it couldn’t be a slippery material, and at the same time, it had to be something that allowed water to drain off. That was the task I gave to Fiberline: we needed something that could last. I must say – that’s exactly what we got."
The fiberglass grating has also proven to be a durable and low-maintenance solution. The material doesn’t rust in saltwater, ensuring that the ramps remain functional year-round without the need for constant maintenance.
For Jan and many other sailors, the ramps have become an essential part of the sailing experience at Vejle Harbor. They allow for the safe and easy launching of dinghies and other small boats:
"When I need to get my boat into the water, I use what’s called a dinghy cart, place my boat on it, and roll it down the ramp. The advantage of having such a dock is that you don’t slip." Explains Cedia Albrechtslund, 10 years old, one of the young sailors at Sejlklubben Neptun.
The fiberglass ramps have now been in use for a full decade and have proven to be a long-term solution that will continue to benefit sailors for many years to come. Sejlklubben Neptun and their partners can look back on a successful installation that has solved many challenges and provided safety for the harbor’s users.
Fibreglass is a plastic based composite consisting of dry glass fibres and polyester. Normally referred to as fibreglass or GRP. In combination this result in a very strong and rigid material, perfect for construction purposes! Fibreglass is a cost-effective alternative to traditional building materials since it combines several advantages, e.g. it has strength as steel but weighs less, is corrosion-resistant, and has a good sustainability profile.
Our products are CE certified according to the EN13706 1-3 standard. This certification is your guarantee of consistently high quality every time you buy from us and use our products. Read more
Fiberglass enables lightweight and robust constructions, making installation faster. Although the material is comparable to steel, the specific weight of Fiberglass is only a quarter of steel. Read more
Fiberglass is an exceptionally strong material, rivaling steel, aluminum, and wood. Composite profiles offer similar weight to aluminum, while being just 20% the weight of concrete and 40% of steel, making them highly efficient. Read more
Composite materials are generally very durable, with only a few exceptions. They resist a variety of aggressive liquids and environments, resulting in long lifespan and minimal need for maintenance. Read more
Fiberglass is UV-resistant and can withstand temperatures between -40 and +80 degrees Celsius without deterioration of its properties. Additionally, it tolerates seawater and other atmospheric influences. Read more
Fiberglass profiles are electrically insulating. They are suitable for use in connection with all electrical constructions, such as along railway tracks, power plant installations, etc., as they are suitable for both low and medium voltage. Read more
The processing of fiberglass profiles is significantly easier than for metals such as steel, and just as efficient as for wood. This makes it easy to handle solutions with our profiles on site. Read more
